Should
Scotland be an independent country?
On
Thursday 18th September, the people of Scotland were given the
opportunity to vote for independence or choose to continue as part of
the UK. Having spent several days researching, following and
discussing the developments leading up to the referendum, 3rd and 4th
year pupils at Col·legi Pompeu Fabra cast their vote. It was a clear
victory for the 'yes' campaign with a majority of around 90% opting
for independence. 55% of voters in Scotland, however, decided to
remain part of the UK... for the moment.
Regardless
of the outcome, the world has witnessed a great example of
modern democracy in this referendum. Scotland and Catalonia have a
lot in common but will the Catalans be granted permission to make the
same decision about their own future? Yes or no?
Avui els alumnes de 3r i 4t d'ESO han viscut molt d'aprop les raons dels escocesos del seu vot al referèndum. L'activitat l'han iniciat des de l'àrea de socials mirant el programa 30 minuts "El dilema d'Escòcia" i després de comentar la història des de fa 300 anys d'unió entre Anglaterra i Escòcia, la Cristina i la Ruth han realitzat en anglès les preguntes i les conseqüències del resultat del referèndum. Volem agrair molt especialment la visita de la Ruth a l'escola i fer-nos sentir tant d'aprop un moment tant històric per Escòcia, el seu país d'origen. Gràcies!
